Check Me Out! I'm New

We love getting new books in our library. Over the years we've tried various ways of drawing attention to our new books. Most recently, we have dedicated an entire display table to them and we only have two tables in our library. This year, however, we have been using both displays with our seasonal setups so we wanted to try something different; placing books in their normal genre section on a book easel with a special "Check Me Out I'm New" book insert to help draw attention. We have three designs we've tried and each design offers something different.
The Triangle designs are large and bold. You can see them in our library from a mile away. We made large and small sizes but we noticed that even the small size can be a little tight on our shelves. The best placement for these inserts is on the very top of a shelf like two next to our "New Books" sign.
The second and third designs include the same bold colors that are easy to spot but have a lower top-of-book profile. These inserts are perfect for books that are displayed on the shelf.
We like what these have done visually for our library. In years past we would have one big display upfront with all of our new books. The display looked great but this way highlights the new books throughout each genre, both fiction and nonfiction so well. It's almost like a quick visual check to see if our newest book order was balanced by scanning all the book inserts throughout each genre. They also physically draw readers to sections they may not have ventured over to on their own.
If you would like to give these a try in your space you can find the triangles here and the low-profile designs here. Both files come with matching 8.5 x 11" "New Books" display signs. The inserts are super easy to print and cut. We've found that laminated cardstock performs best but cardstock alone would work too. If you use these in your library we would love it if you would tag us on Instagram @Readonthehill to show us how they look in your space!
